Coverage of artificial intelligence has come in a flurry. This weekend there was a ‘pro-data center’ party in DC and an AI-adjacent sex party called SlutCon Berkeley. Yesterday, Anthropic filed for their IPO, pursuing a valuation of more than $2 trillion. Today, the Trump administration unveiled a new AI interface for government services, in the style of an Apple product announcement no less. It was followed by a who’s-who luncheon of the AI industry at the White House.
It feels like the early days of COVID, where every day was a new reality. Maskers became anti-maskers. Vaxxers became anti-vaxxers. The scientific community was in the process of being pulled into politics, but the sides weren’t clear yet.
